Ten inmates escaped the Orleans Paris Jail early Friday morning and were not discovered until hours later. The inmates removed a toilet from the wall using toiletries found within the jail. Once the toilet was free, a hole in the wall (although covered with bars) was produced. There was enough space for the men to escape, and so they did. Once out of the hole, the men scaled down a wall and ran across the interstate to freedom.
This event took place at 1:01 am, but the men were not noticed as missing until head count at 8:30 am. One of the 10 was caught outside of a French Quarter hotel, not far from the facility. All of the men on the run are considered armed and dangerous. The New Orleans Attorney General responded to the fiasco calling it “unacceptable” and also saying that there are necessary fixes that need to happen so this wont occur again.
