Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has said she became the target of a fraudulent voter registration in New York City. According to Willis, someone submitted an application in her name without her knowledge or consent, listing her as a Republican living at Trump Tower in Manhattan while using the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta as the mailing address.
Willis, a lifelong Democrat, learned of the filing after receiving a notice from the New York City Board of Elections that the registration was being canceled because officials suspected it was fraudulent. She stated that the application contained multiple false details, including an incorrect date of birth, the wrong party affiliation, and a forged signature. “It came to my attention that someone registered to vote as me in New York. Interestingly enough, they registered me as a Republican that lived in Trump Tower, of all places,” she told WSB-TV.
The New York City Board of Elections confirmed it canceled the registration after review. The board said it has no record of any vote being cast under the registration and noted that anyone attempting to vote would have needed to provide identification or other proof of residence. Board records indicate the application was received around October 13, 2024, around the same time as other registrations later deemed suspicious.
Willis described the episode as harassment and said someone “apparently committed a crime to harass” her. She added that she takes the matter seriously to avoid any confusion about her eligibility to vote in Georgia. Her office is in contact with a prosecutor in New York to explore whether criminal charges will be pursued. She said she is relieved that no vote was cast in her name.
The details first surfaced publicly in late October 2026 during a WSB-TV interview with Willis on an unrelated matter, when documents related to the canceled registration were reviewed. No one has been publicly identified in connection with the filing.
