A Chicago news crew was robbed at gunpoint while covering a story about the recent rash of robberies in the area. The crew was from the Chicago-based UNIVISION station but their identities were not released, as the robbery did not happen on camera. The robbery took place at around 5 a.m. Monday morning in the West Town neighborhood, which is known as an affluent hot spot in the city.
A group of men approached the news crew while brandishing firearms. The men stole the crew’s television camera and other personal items. Police identified the suspects as a 28-year-old man and a 42-year-old man. Nobody was injured during the incident. A robbery of this nature is not a new thing for Chicago.
Other news crews have been robbed in a similar fashion recently. Some may blame the city’s very tough gun laws that restrict law-abiding citizens but do not really apply to criminals who don’t follow laws. Then, there is the lack of prosecution of criminals and the demoralization of the police. Policies that come from Mayor Brandon Johnson and other political figures in the city are obviously not working well, as violent crimes and robberies are up at least 25% year to year.
