Manchester United scrapped plans to wear an LGBTQ jacket and jersey arm band after Noussair Mazraoui refused to wear them. The entirety of his team joined him in solidarity, therefore canceling the team leadership’s plans altogether. Mazraoui is of Moroccan descent and a devout Muslim. His rejection of the LGBTQ apparel stems directly from his faith. Some pro-LGBTQ groups say they respect Mazraoui’s faith, but they are disappointed in the outcome. Those groups also say that he put his teammates in a situation where they may have felt pressured to take what wound up being the final course of action.
