The online data broker National Public Data (NPD) has confirmed that the 2.9 billion stolen lines of data include Social Security numbers. This comes on the heels of an unveiled Florida lawsuit that spilled the proverbial beans to the mainstream media. It appears that NPD had serious and obvious security flaws before the incident, including an unsecured document on a similar website with passwords to NPD. Tons of data were leaked from the online data broker that markets itself as a tool for companies to conduct background checks on potential employees. There is an available tool to see if your social security number was part of the data leak. Also, there is a tool called Aura that will assist you in keeping your data secure.
