New York State officials confiscated and euthanized the social media sensation squirrel named Peanut. The Department of Environmental Conservation executed a raid on the home of Mark Longo, the squirrel’s owner. Longo says he was locked in a room with his wife as the officials took five hours to ransack their home, looking for the squirrel. During the raid, one of the officers was bit by Peanut. To test the pet squirrel (and raccoon) that they confiscated, the officials euthanized them both.
