A Venezuelan migrant gang has reportedly taken over an Aurora, Colorado, apartment complex. The migrants have been seen “patrolling” the low-income apartments with weapons. There are also allegations of the migrants extorting regular tenants. Not much is being done with the situation due to the legal limbo migrants are considered to be in when it comes to local and federal law. Locals say this is an issue of “squatters rights,” and the Federal Government doesn’t really want to intervene due to Denver being a sanctuary city.
Sanctuary cities and states ultimately try to keep Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) out of local affairs dealing with migrants. To make a long story short, sanctuary cities protect illegal aliens and other people who are not United States citizens from the Federal Government. Meanwhile, the landlord is being forced to evict actual tenants because of the gang engaging in extortion. Tenants are being forced to pay the gang rent instead of the landlord. Such a thing was predictable and will happen in other sanctuary cities nationwide.
