President Donald Trump confronted the Democratic Governor of Maine, Janet Mills, over his Executive Order concerning transgender athletes. The President signed the order banning men from women’s sports to ensure fairness and safety just a few days ago. While at the podium during a National Governors Association session at the White House, Trump directly spoke to Janet Mills over her refusal to enforce the order.
The Maine Principal’s Association, previously said it would not bar transgender athletes from competing on teams that match their gender identity, citing a state anti-discrimination law. Mills told Trump that she would comply with local and federal law on the issue, to which Trump replied “we are the federal law.” Trump went on to tell Mills, during this meeting, that her state would not receive federal funding if they did not comply with the Executive Order. She responded by saying “see you in court” to which Trump replied favorably, saying that it would be an easy one.
There have been several instances of men competing against women in contact sports and seriously injuring them. One woman’s skull was fractured by a man during an MMA fight. The 2024 Paris Olympics were marred with controversy after a biological man was able to compete against women in boxing. Lia Thomas, formerly William Thomas, famously competed against women in collegiate swimming and dominated. Thomas had competed as a man against men for his entire college career until his last year when he decided to identify as a woman.
