The threshold in developing countries due to higher infant mortality rates. Birthrate numbers refer to the number of children each woman has. If a woman has less than two children, that means her and her husband/partner have not reproduced themselves numbers wise. The United States currently has a replacement rate of 1.66 and there are no signs of this rate improving any time soon. Other western nations have followed the lead of the United States with South Korea being the lowest in the world at 0.78.
