A California Bill currently floating around Sacramento seeks to make home ownership easier for illegal aliens. Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) introduced the bill. If passed, Assembly Bill 1040 would expand the eligibility of a state loan program to undocumented migrants. The program is for first-time homebuyers under a specific income level.
If approved for the program, California grants a 20% down payment on a home for the buyer. The homeowner is not responsible for paying this money back unless they sell it, and then they must pay the down payment back with interest. Arambula says that a person’s immigration status should not prevent them from partaking in the American dream. Critics of the bill say that such a program should only be available to American citizens.
