President Joe Biden has officially dropped out of the 2024 Presidential race. This bombshell news comes just one month before the Democratic National Convention (DNC), where the Democrats formally announce their Presidential nominee and Vice Presidential pick. Biden announced the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, with a letter signaling his intent to drop out. There was no press conference, short video, or anything of the sort.
Some news media allies of Biden are furious, saying this is the worst time to do such a thing and that Trump has just been given the keys to the kingdom. Others say this is the best thing to do, including Van Jones, who essentially started crying on camera after the news broke. Kamala Harris is the presumptive Presidential nominee, although many Democrats are vocally anti-Kamala due to her perceived lack of ability to win. This could be an issue for black voters, who would see a deviation from the natural line of secession as an action fueled by racism.
Kamala Harris ran for president in 2020 but did not do well at all. She polled dead last or nearly dead last, behind the likes of Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg. There are rumors of Michelle Obama and/or Gavin Newsom throwing their name in the ring to become the nominee, but the likelihood of this happening is slim to none.
