Two Southern California shoplifters were shocked to hear about new laws that enhance the penalty for their crimes. Prop 36 passed with overwhelming support to impose actual punishment on thieves in the Golden State. Previously, any theft of items worth under $950 would not be prosecuted. Now, if a person has two prior theft convictions, theft of items in that now-infamous price range is classified as a felony. Prop 36 was passed in an effort to stop rampant “flash robs” and the smaller, dink-and-dunk types of theft that the two young ladies in the now-viral video were engaging in.
