A long-running concert festival called “Music Midtown” has been cancelled this year and into the foreseeable future due to “circumstances beyond their control”. Music Midtown has not released a specific reason for its cancellation. Rumor has it that Georgia’s new “Constitutional Carry” gun laws play a factor here. The problem is that Music Midtown cannot ban guns from Piedmont Park as it is public property. If they had a long-term lease to the park and paid taxes, like the Botanical Garden does with the land it sits on, then they could enforce a gun-free zone. But since that is not the case, then Music Midtown cannot supersede Georgia’s laws which do not ban guns from public property.
