Catholic NFL player Harrison Butker gave a faith-based commencement speech at Benedictine College. The three-time Super Bowl champion from the Kansas City Chiefs was the guest speaker for the school’s graduation. Butker focused on the necessity for gender roles to be respected for the betterment of society. He took a slight jab at the LGBT community and also Joe Biden for being a performative Catholic during a pro-abortion event. He received a round of applause after the conclusion of his 20-minute speech. Once excerpts from his talk hit social media and television, things changed.
A petition was launched to have him removed from the Chiefs. Many angered leftists took to social media to voice their displeasure with what he said. Allegations of homophobia, misogyny, and an overall outdated view of the world were lobbed at Butker. The NFL released a statement from their DEI office saying that Butker’s views are his own and they do not represent the NFL.
