Graduating CUNY law student Fatima Moussa Mohammed gave a highly controversial commencement speech featuring criticisms of the NYPD and the state of Israel. Outraged critics say City University of New York (CUNY) should be stripped of billions of federal funding. Many of these critics have also panned Mohammed as anti-semitic for her speech.
The problem is that the viewpoints she shared during her speech are most likely not just her own. Mohammed was selected by her classmates to give the speech. And during the speech, she mentioned that a campus-wide BDS program was approved by both teachers and students. “BDS” refers to “Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions” which is a Palestinian-led movement against the state of Israel.
