The first Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is officially over. It took place at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC in Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center. The moderators were David Muir and Linsey Davis. The debate was scheduled for 90 minutes, and both candidates were given two minutes to answer each question. There were two commercial breaks; the first did not happen until one hour into the debate.
The moderators behaved shamefully as they were essentially Kamala Harris’s support team. The moderators constantly fact-checked Donald Trump. David Muir egregiously attempted to fact-check whether Trump was being sarcastic in a previous comment. This same level of skepticism was not present for Kamala Harris, even in the face of obvious lies she repeated. An example of this is the “good people on both sides” statement regarding Charlottesville, which has been repeatedly debunked by the left and right.
Opinions on the debate vary from heaps of praise for Kamala to the same thing for Trump. A handful of conservative voices are disappointed in Trump’s performance, saying that he would ramble and get irritated by Kamala’s lies and gaslighting. Ultimately, for the American people, this was an informative debate because the subject matter being discussed was unfamiliar to most. Google searches trending after the debate showed evidence of people not knowing what the terms “fracking” and “IVF” mean. This is ultimately a good thing for the American public to become more educated about the political process.
