California Governor Gavin Newsom is threatening to withhold funding and resources from places in the state that underperform in cleaning up homeless encampments. Newsom recently issued an executive order requiring California locales to regain control of public places taken over by the homeless population. This has become a significant point of concern on the West Coast in general. Everywhere, from highly populated downtown areas to places without much foot traffic, is subject to sprawling homeless encampments in California. The cleanup effort will never cease if California Government and the federal Government don’t stop some of the “root causes” of homelessness, chief among them being the severe drug problem the nation faces.
