House Democrats Hank Johnson and Jasmine Crockett appeared on a zoom call talking about Trump wanting slavery, or some form of it, to make a comeback. Both of the Democrats in question are black and from the South, one in Texas the other in Georgia. They were speaking about Trump “dismantling” education from a federal level which could have an impact on black Americans. In their mind, his plan is to return black people to doing the same jobs they did during slavery which are the same jobs that the now-deported migrants do.
The reality is that Americans have always done the so-called “dirty” jobs to keep society functioning. The idea of importing massive amounts of migrants is a relatively new concept in this country and it is not widely popular among the masses. Washington loves this practice because it enables corporations to take advantage of cheap and desperate labor. Without those people, the jobs will still be done.
If black people take up the majority of the currently migrant-held jobs after the migrants leave, then so be it. Underemployment, criminality, and incarceration are all high in the black community. Elected officials with largely black constituencies should not be against things that could infuse any sort of capital into their households.
