Hurricane Helene Damage To Asheville, NC, Is Devastating

The damage Hurricane Helene has caused in Asheville, North Carolina, is much worse than most people understand. The lack of understanding of the scope of the damage is, in large part, due to a lack of a sense of urgency from mainstream media and national politicians. Local media and politicos are, of course, on top of the situation to the best of their ability. The attention from the national and international press does not quite match the level of devastation caused by the storm. Western North Carolina is essentially unpassable. Interstate and local traffic have screeched to a halt due to mudslides, extreme flooding, road debris, and more. The death toll has passed 100, and it is expected to rise as the Asheville area dries out and becomes more accessible.
