Israel suffered a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip by HAMAS by land, air, and sea on Saturday, October 7th, 2023. Attacks from Palestinian militants in Gaza and/or the West Bank are not necessarily uncommon. Israel has defense mechanisms to prevent actions like this such as the Iron Dome and Mossad. The Iron Dome is a defense system that deflects most rocket attacks coming from Gaza. Mossad is the famous intelligence arm of the Israeli Government. Mossad has ways to detect movement with satellites, they have spies, and they can easily intercept electronic communications. With Gaza and the West Bank being under the direct control of the Israelis, it is difficult to understand how they did not see such an attack coming.
