Star rapper and mogul Jay-Z is accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl with Sean “Diddy” Combs after the 2000 VMA awards. The woman, who is currently anonymous, is being represented by Houston, Texas, personal injury attorney Tony Buzbee. This is the same lawyer who represented the 20 women who filed claims against star NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson. None of the cases Buzbee has filed against Sean “Jay-Z” Carter, Sean “Diddy” Combs, or Deshaun Watson are criminal in nature. They are all civil.
Jay-Z released a statement vehemently denying the allegations. He would like for the accuser to unmask themselves or simply drop the case. Jay-Z also stated such a serious allegation should be a matter for criminal courts. There is no statute of limitations to file criminal complaints of sexual assault in New York, which is where the alleged incident took place. Buzbee also admits sending a letter to Jay-Z before the lawsuit was filed, but he denies it was to ask for a cash settlement and that it was for “mediation”… which probably translates into “cash settlement” once all of the smoke clears.
