Several looters and at least one suspected arsonist have been arrested in Los Angeles during the ongoing wildfires. Newly-elected Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman has recommended that at least one of them receive life in prison due to his lengthy criminal rap sheet. Under the “three strikes” rule in California, repeat felony offenders are subject to much harsher penalties, including life imprisonment, upon conviction of their third felony. These charges may represent a change from the previous District Attorney George Gascon who was seen as enabling the current Los Angeles crime wave due to his soft-on-crime policies.
