Manhunt Continues For Person Who Shot And Killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in Manhattan by an unnamed assailant. He was 50 years old and left behind a wife and two children. The suspect is currently on the run. NYPD says the shooter fled on a Citi Bike immediately after the incident took place and was last scene at Central Park. The person used cash to pay for whatever was purchased in the area, so there is no digital trail. Security footage mostly shows the person with a mask on, aside from one instance in a local hostel where the clerk requested them to pull their mask down.

UnitedHealth has recently experienced protests at their Minnesota headquarters. It is surprising that Thompson would not be tailed by security. He is a high profile figure in a highly controversial industry. There is also an allegation of insider trading within UnitedHealth that Thompson may have testified against in court. Some highly-motivated people may not have wanted his testimony to happen, so they eliminated him as a result.

The shooter appeared to be somewhat professional and trained. Bullet casings from the scene read “depose”, “defend”, and “deny.” It is unclear what these words are in reference to, but they do show obvious signs of planning.
