A military “Black Hawk” helicopter crashed into an American Airlines passenger jet at DCA airport. This airport is situated on the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, just across from Washington, DC. Initial reports indicate that the jet was attempting to land as the helicopter crossed it’s path. Video of the crash appears to corroborate that. There were 64 passengers aboard the regional jet and 3 crew aboard the helicopter. There are no survivors expected to be found. Bodies of the deceased are rapidly being recovered as the crash site is in relatively shallow water.
The cause of this tragedy is not quite clear. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy both say that the flight patterns of both aircraft were routine with experienced crew. The only weak link here appears to be Air Traffic Control. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the ATC over diversity hiring accomplished with the aid of discrimination.
