Pro-Palestine protester Mahmoud Khalil has been arrested by ICE and is facing deportation. Khalil is a well-known activist on the campus of Columbia University. It is alleged that many of the “protests” he has been involved with wound up harming Jewish students and teachers. Khalil denies any antisemitism, saying that he wishes for the freedom of the Palestinian and Jewish people. However, the Trump Administration looks at his behavior as dangerous and subversive and non-deserving of the privilege he has as a green card holder. Critics of Khalil’s arrest say that this is a violation of his Freedom of Speech. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says Secretary of State Marco Rubio reserves the right to revoke an individual’s Green Card for reasons such as the aforementioned.
