Rachel Maddow Mentions Race As A Factor While Reacting To Joy Reid Being Fired From MSNBC

Rachel Maddow, the top anchor on MSNBC, appeared to throw the network under the bus over the firing of Joy Reid. There have been several reactions to the news of “The Reid Out” being cancelled and Joy Reid being let go from MSNBC completely.

Many leftists reacting to Reid’s firing allude to race being a factor, especially since other “nonwhites” (as Maddow put it) on NBC have been fired or demoted. Lester Holt had been hosting NBC Nightly News since 2015 when Brian Williams was demoted over exaggerating “war stories”. Holt has now been demoted himself, back to being fulltime on “Dateline”. Jonathan Capehart, Ayman Mohyeldin, Katie Phang, and Reid have all been let go. Maddow mentioned that the firings and/or reassignments have only affected nonwhites and that is a problem.

Maddow is on the right track by mentioning race but her conclusion is most likely an incorrect one. These people who were fired or demoted were probably hired or promoted because of their race. Then, when the ratings and viewership did not measure up to what a cable news network requires, they were fired. If race was not the determining factor during the hiring process, maybe they would have focused more on people who can actually move the needle ratings wise and generate some money.
