The assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson sparked an ugly trend on and off of social media. In droves, people took to their phones to celebrate his death as a victory for people struggling in society. There were crude jokes about his death, linking it to being denied medical coverage from an insurance company. United Healthcare does have a high rate of refusing claims, but this is not much different with other companies. People are simply frustrated with America’s healthcare system without the appropriate party to blame. Much of their grievances should be addressed on Capitol Hill, as the Federal Government is behind many of the policies that insurance companies must adhere to. Brian Thompson was simply an employee, not much different than a person on the phone working in customer service relaying the message of denied coverage.
