Stephen A. Smith appeared on an episode of “The View” and discussed a variety of things including, of course, politics. Joy Behar brought up the subject of President Trump claiming a “mandate” after the election. A “mandate” refers to something Presidents claim they have after elections when there is a decisive victory in the election for their party’s values. Behar attempted to downplay it by citing some numbers and refusing to cite others.
Stephen A., who is not a Trump supporter, kicked back against her narrative and provided some numbers of his own. The one key stat Smith mentioned is that 89% of counties shifted to the right, even if those counties didn’t necessarily vote for Trump. For example, if a county usually goes 60%/40% Democrat/Republican and then they go 51%/49% the next election, that is a shift in favor of the Republicans although they did not win. There was not much the panel of ladies could say.
Karine Jean-Pierre came on after Stephen A. and she disagreed with him, but echoed much of the failed argument the ladies made before she came out.
