Over one thousand people are reported unaccounted for after Hurricane Helene’s devastation. Many states in the southeastern part of the country have been affected by this once-in-a-lifetime storm. Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, and South Carolina reported severe storm damage. The Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina suffered the most. Over 70 people (and counting, unfortunately) are reportedly deceased in the state after Helene.
Major interstates have been washed out by out-of-control water flow caused by overflowing creeks and rivers. There have also been reports of dam failures. Locals in NC mountain places like Asheville say storm recovery could take years. Biden has spoken on the issues briefly, and President Trump announced plans to visit Valdosta, Georgia, near the Florida state line. As of the writing of this article, there hasn’t been much word from Vice President Kamala Harris.
