Members of the trans community are highly upset at the Trump administration’s “two genders” on passports policy. President Trump signed an Executive Order stating that there are only two genders, male and female. This order extends to passports as applicants may only select their biological birth gender. In 2022, the Biden administration allowed people who do not identify as male or female explicitly to use “x” as a gender marker on their passports. Trump’s order reversed that policy, upsetting many within the LGBT community. Proponents of the change say that this is a matter of national security and it is not about being bigoted or hateful.
