Mesha Mainor, a Democrat Georgia House Rep from District 56 (Atlanta), has left the party and become Republican. Mainor was inaugurated into office back in January 2021. One of the chief issues she has championed from the start is school choice. Such a thing is considered heresy within the Democratic Party. Mainor is also against defunding police, another cardinal sin for the Democratic Party. She says her former party lobbed a ton of abuse and mistreatment against her due to the issues that she fights for. In a public written and spoken statement, Mainor said that enough is enough and her party switch is necessary to bring forth change not only in her community but also in Georgia as a whole.
