Carlee Russell’s parents have spoken out to the mainstream media by giving an interview to NBC News. There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding the disappearance and reappearance of their daughter. Many people say that Carlee fabricated this story simply for attention, similar to Jussie Smollett and others. Carlee’s mother says that such allegations are hurtful to Carlee, as she is still trying to wrap her head around what happened to her. The mother also said that police are currently pursuing Carlee’s abductor. Both Carlee’s boyfriend and her mother say that she was fighting for her life both physically and mentally during the 48 hours that she was missing.
Carlee was gone for 48 hours after being reported missing from the side of the interstate near Hoover, Alabama. She called the police and reported a lone male toddler on the side of the road wearing nothing but a diaper. Carlee then called her sister as she pulled to the side of the road to see about the child. Shortly after this, Carlee’s sister says she lost direct contact with her but the phone line was still open. The sister then heard Carlee scream which was followed up by random interstate noise. Police showed up at the location Carlee called from to find all of her belongings, but no Carlee or toddler.
