Deadspin Sued Over Defaming Young Kansas City Chiefs Fan With Blackface Allegations

The family of 9-year-old Holden Armenta has sued Deadspin for defamation after “blackface” allegations. Holden wore black and red face paint at a Chiefs away game in Las Vegas against the Raiders. News footage captured one side of his face that was painted black. A screengrab of this footage circulated around social media, and people accused the boy of wearing “blackface.” This was deemed as an offensive gesture toward the black community. He was also accused of cultural appropriation for wearing a Native headdress.

Holden’s face was painted black on one side and red on the other to match the Kansas City Chief’s colors. The headdress was also meant to go with the Chiefs theme. At best, it is a stretch to call such a thing cultural appropriation since Holden Armenta is Native American and part of the Chumash Tribe out in California. Leftist rag “Deadspin” reporter Carron J. Phillips authored an article accusing Armenta of racism and cultural insensitivity. This, when paired with other articles and opinions online, sparked an onslaught of threats and hate toward the boy and his family. The family is now suing Deadspin for the damage done by their irresponsible “journalism.”
