Arizona GOP Chair Jeff DeWitt resigned after leaked audio showed him allegedly trying to ‘bribe’ Kari Lake (R). He behaved as a middleman, relaying a message from “powerful people back east” who wished to see Lake refrain from running for office for two years. The offer presented to Lake was for a no-show corporate gig or a “talking-head” role. DeWitt is heard in the tape asking Lake what the magic “number” would be to get her to take a break. DeWitt denies that he attempted to bribe Lake, and he says the leaked audio was “selectively edited.” Kari Lake ran for Governor of Arizona in 2022, eventually losing to Katie Hobbs. She also plans to run for Senate against Kyrsten Sinema (I) this year.
