World-famous musician Carlos Santana offends members of the trans community with remarks made at a concert. He has apparently issued an apology after video of the comments went viral. The comments in question were made back in July at a concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The “Maria Maria” guitarist stated that a “woman is a woman and a man is a man.” He also said: “when God made you and me, before we came out of the womb, you know who you are and what you are.”
Santana also invoked Dave Chappelle by saying that they are essentially on the same page. The Chappelle reference obviously ties back to the controversy that the comedian faced after “offensive” jokes from his Netflix special “The Closer”. The comments Carlos Santana made are very logical and shared by the overwhelming majority of humanity. His viewpoint is shared across racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and regional barriers. But, of course, some members of the LGBTQ community are going to be offended.
Santana apparently offered an apology through a written statement released on his Facebook page. Media outlets picked it up as soon as it was released. However, the link to the original post is unavailable, which most likely means that Santana has deleted it.
