An estimated one thousand Catholics showed up at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles to protest the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This LGBTQ group was invited by the Major League Baseball team for Pride Night. The group was actually invited twice. The first invitation was rescinded after backlash from Catholic organizations. Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence perform in drag with religious iconographies such as the cross, nun outfits, and priest outfits. These things are deeply offensive to religious Catholic people.
For some reason, the Dodgers decided to double down on their invitation to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence by re-inviting them after a short period of time. The group finally showed up at Dodgers Stadium to be honored by the team on Friday, June 16th, 2023. However, the protesters showed up in full force before the game started, blocking the main entrance to the stadium.
Video shows the highly controversial LGBT group being honored inside of Dodgers stadium while the pro-Catholic protest was happening outside. There was little to no crowd at all inside. Mainstream media outlets have flagged this video as misleading due to the fact that the stadium was at its usual capacity when the game started. The issue here is that the Dodgers appeared to try and hide the group from the view of most of their crowd due to honoring them one full hour before the first pitch. They tried to appease both sides, so to speak. The Dodgers can say that they did host the group, but since most of the crowd wasn’t present to see it, then most people wouldn’t notice. Obviously, much of social media, the news media, and the over one thousand protesters outside noticed anyway.
