The Howard University Nursing School graduation ceremony came to a screeching halt after chaos ensued outside the venue’s doors. There appeared to have been a miscalculation between the number of people invited to the ceremony and the auditorium’s capacity. At a certain point, the venue was closed, and other people were prohibited from attending. This included some students who were barred from attending their own graduation.
Angry graduating students and their friends and family are seen in a viral video chanting, “Let us in!” One or more people locked outside began banging on glass windows, eventually breaking one. The Dean of Howard’s Nursing School announced that the fire marshal shut down the graduation. DC Police and Fire dispute this, saying they only arrived due to one person injured by glass from a broken window.
