The City of Chicago, Illinois, suffered at least 109 shootings over the July 4th Independence Day weekend. 19 of those victims succumbed to their injuries. Chicago’s Mayor, Brandon Johnson, spoke out about the violence. For some reason, he decided to take a trip back in time with his speech and invoke the names of Lyndon Baines Johnson and Richard Nixon. The Mayor stated that people were trying to get to the “root causes” of crime and violence 60 years ago, but people laughed at him (LBJ), and Richard Nixon’s Presidency was the result. Brandon Johnson’s words will most likely fall on deaf ears because it is preposterous to mention Federal Government politics from the 1970s when speaking about what is mostly gang violence in the bad areas of Chicago.
