American TikTok users are flooding into another Chinese social app called “Red Note” at such an extremely fast rate. There are so many people flocking to this app due to a possible ban of TikTok that it has become the top overall on Apple’s App Store. The idea those who download it have is pretty simple. If the United States Government bans one popular Chinese social media app, just simply hop to another one. However, this app is very Chinese with its rules and restrictions, unlike TikTok which is a westernized version of the Chinese app called “Douyin”. Furthermore, the name “Red Note” is misleading. The actual name in Chinese is “Xiaohongshu” which translates literally into Mao Zedong’s Little Red Book, a handbook guide to Chinese Communism.
