Colorado Springs Yemi Mobolade Accused Of Communicating With Hate Crime Hoax Suspect Before Election

Yemi Mobolade, the Mayor of Colorado Springs, has been linked to a person in jail accused of staging a hate hoax last year. Federal agents say Mobolade communicated with now-jailed Derek Bernard on multiple occasions through text messages during his 2023 campaign. At least one of the text communications reveal that Bernard relayed information to Mobolade about the hate hoax, which was a cross burning in front of a campaign sign with the “n-word” scrawled across. This incident happened just before a special election and Mobolade was successful. Mobolade has not been indicted for the alleged hate crime hoax and there is speculation that he is being protected due to being the “first black Mayor of Colorado Springs” under the Biden/Harris administration.
