Denver Mayor Mike Johnston issued a veiled threat against federal agents who attempt to enforce President Donald Trump’s mass deportation order. Johnston stated that there could be a line of Denver Police Department officers lined up to block feds from advancing. He went on to say that there could be 50,000 citizens prepared to have a Tiananmen Square moment upon the arrival of federal agents to protect migrants. These comments came during an interview with Denverite which was published text-only. In a follow-up interview with local news, Johnston did not necessarily walk back his comments but he attempted to clean them up by saying he doesn’t want things to get to “that point.”
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul correctly pointed out that if his language results in action then it would be an act of insurrection. Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan says that the Mayor could be arrested for such actions and if that’s what he desires, he will be happy to oblige him.
