Elderly Woman Killed By Caretaker Four Hours After Police Visit

An 82-year-old woman named Juneanne Fannell warned police about her dangerous caretaker just four hours before tragedy struck. Local police in New Mexico released audio of the emergency phone call in which both the caretaker and Fannell spoke to authorities. The caretaker pleaded with police to “get her out of here” while Fannell essentially echoed the same sentiments. She was worried about the guns her caretaker had in the home. When police arrived, body camera footage showed police complimenting the man for having guns. Ms. Fannell was bedridden and begged the police to stay. They wind up leaving without enforcing New Mexico’s newly enacted “red flag” law on the weapons in the home. They also did not take the woman out of the house. Four hours later, the caretaker (also elderly) shot and killed Ms. Fannell with one of the guns in the home.
