Lamar Eliseo Roman, a former Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy in the Florida Keys, was fired and charged after investigators said he misused law enforcement databases and automated license plate readers (including systems associated with Flock cameras) to track and pull over a woman he met while working security on the set of the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey.
On February 3, 2026, Roman, then 28 and relatively new to the agency (hired in May 2025), was providing off-duty security on the production in Big Pine Key. He noticed a 27-year-old extra getting off a bus for background actors, whistled and catcalled her (reportedly saying something like “why didn’t nobody tell me we were bringing models to the set”), flirted despite her saying she had a boyfriend, and obtained her name, number, and Instagram handle. He later messaged her on Instagram without a response.
Investigators determined that Roman then improperly accessed restricted systems, including Florida’s Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) and FCIC/NCIC databases, to obtain her personal and vehicle information. He added her license plate to a “hotlist” on the Guardian automated license plate reader (ALPR) system. This would alert him in real time when her vehicle passed electronic readers—tools intended for locating stolen vehicles or wanted suspects, not personal pursuits. Some reports specifically reference Flock cameras in connection with the tracking.
On February 19, after receiving an alert, Roman—while on patrol—sped after her vehicle on U.S. 1 at speeds around 70 mph in zones limited to 45–55 mph. Dashcam footage showed him passing vehicles in no-passing zones and nearly causing a head-on collision, forcing another driver off the road. He then conducted an unauthorized traffic stop near Big Coppitt Key, during which he reportedly told her words to the effect of “I told you I’d find you and pull you over” and mentioned hoping her boyfriend was present so he could “give him a hard time.” The stop was not properly logged.
Roman was fired and arrested in March 2026 on felony charges related to unauthorized access/misuse of law-enforcement computers, networks, and electronic devices. In interviews with investigators, he admitted the improper searches, describing the woman as a “shiny thing” and acknowledging he knew the actions were wrong. The woman declined to pursue personal charges, but the agency proceeded.
In August 2026, court documents showed Roman entered a pre-trial intervention program. Under the agreement, he avoids jail time if he meets conditions (including no contact with the woman and staying out of trouble for a set period); successful completion would lead to the charges being dropped.
The case highlighted concerns about access controls and potential misuse of powerful ALPR and database tools by law enforcement for personal reasons. Roman is no longer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
