Florida Supreme Court Upholds Ron DeSantis’s Heartbeat Bill

The Florida Supreme Court has upheld a 15-week abortion ban, which was initially signed into law by Ron DeSantis in 2022. Another law was passed in 2023, making abortion even more restricted, banning the procedure past the six-week mark. The so-called “heartbeat law” was always set to start one month after the 15-week ban. This could be temporary because the 15-week ban will be on the November 2024 election ballot. If 60% of Floridians vote to enshrine abortion “rights” into Florida’s constitution, then the 15 and 6-week bans will be rescinded. Then, abortion in Florida would return to the 22 to 25-week mark that it was before the 2022 and 2023 laws were passed.
