Hakeem Jeffries Lies About Byron Donalds’s “Jim Crow” Comments

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D) lied about Florida House Rep Byron Donalds’s (R) view on the black family during Jim Crow. Jeffries said that Donalds stated that black Americans were doing better during this time. That is not what Donalds said. If anything, Jeffries interpreted what Donalds said in a certain way and then presented his opinion as facts.

Donalds, in an article, said that the black family was more cohesive and blacks were more conservative during the Jim Crow era, before civil rights. This is an undeniable fact. A person could assume or presume that Donalds meant that Jim Crow was better for black people, but that is no more than opinion and not fact.

Before 1960, 80% of black children and 95% of white children were born to two married parents. In 2024, about 75% of black children and 25% of white children are born to unmarried parents. The Jim Crow era ended at around 1960. The numbers back up Byron Donalds’s statement, regardless of what Hakeem Jeffries thinks or how he feels.

The Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s also ushered in a consistent voting pattern in the black community that shifted almost exclusively Democratic every year. This was not the case before civil rights. There was much more voter parity, and, as a result, the community was more cohesive. Government dependence has crippled the community in a variety of ways. When drugs hit in the 1980s, it was sort of a nail in the coffin. All of the aforementioned negative things that hit post-Jim Crow are products of leftist ideology.
