Ohio Senator JD Vance debated Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on CBS in New York City for the first and only Vice Presidential debate. Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan moderated the event. It was scheduled to last from 9pm EST to 1030pm EST, but it ran for a little longer than that. There were two commercial breaks, one at about 10pm EST and another just before the closing statements from each candidate a little after 1030pm EST. Each candidate was given the standard two minutes to answer questions, with the occasional one minute to respond to allegations made by the other.
Several issues were discussed, including the economy, Donald Trump’s previous statements, and Kamala Harris’s track record as Vice President. Vance came off as a composed leader who is prepared to become President in 2028 if he chooses to take that route. On the other hand, Walz appeared nervous, like a deer in headlights. During the debate, Tim Walz was also a gaffe machine, making many confusing statements, including one about befriending school shooters.
