Podcaster and UFC host Joe Rogan confronted CNN medical contributor Sanjay Gupta about his employer’s assertion that Rogan took “horse dewormer” to fight off the virus. Much to the delight of many of his liberal detractors, Rogan caught the bug a few weeks ago. Rogan announced that he took a variety of medications and natural remedies to get beyond the virus including monoclonal antibodies and Ivermectin. Since there is a version of IVM sold at horse feed stores to deworm horses, some people decided to purchase that for themselves. Rather than being honest and saying that IVM has been prescribed to billions of people over the years all over the world, CNN referred to the Nobel Peace Prize-winning medication as a “horse dewormer”. Joe Rogan was prescribed IVM by a doctor. He did not get it from a horse feed store.
Rogan took the opportunity to get down to the bottom of why CNN would lie about his medical treatment while Sanjay Gupta was on the show. To call their interaction awkward would be the understatement of the year. Sanjay was stuttering and stammering like Joe Biden during an unscripted press conference. It was most certainly a sight to see. The best way to describe this interaction would be how an online troll would behave when the person (or people) they had been bullying behind an egg avatar on Twitter confronts them in real life. Awkward smiles and laughing trying to diffuse the situation while the offended party is completely serious and deadpan.
Sanjay Gupta sympathized with Joe Rogan’s anger over their labeling of his doctor-prescribed medication to deal with his illness as “horse-dewormer”. He even said that they should not have called it that. Gupta attempted to come off as apologetic while at the same time defending his employer, CNN. Joe Rogan has one of the largest, if not the largest, podcast platforms in the world. As soon as Gupta’s appearance on the podcast hit the internet it went viral. Needless to say, CNN immediately jumped into damage control by forcing (or asking?) Gupta appear on several shows to essentially clean up the mess he had made. Don Lemon doubled down on the Ivermectin-as-horse-dewormer narrative with a nervous Sanjay Gupta looking on from the opposing side of the split-screen. All Gupta could do is simply agree with his LGBT black male CNN co-worker, essentially unraveling all the “good faith” he’d established on JRE.
