Juneteenth Banner Poster Goes Viral And Sparks Outrage

One banner poster promoting a Juneteenth celebration in Greenville, South Carolina has gone viral due to the white couple featured on it. Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery and it recently became a federal holiday. The organizer of the event in Greenville decided to make the event more inclusive by using banners featuring different races of people. This did not go over very well on social media. People accused the organizer of trying to “whitewash” a black event. Although the event is clearly black-centered, the objective was to make everyone else feel welcome. Ultimately, the organizer wound up apologizing for the execution of this marketing strategy. All of the banner ads will be redesigned to feature the “pan-African” flag instead of pictures of people.
