Vice President Kamala Harris held her first Presidential rally at the GSU Convocation Center in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The crowd was electric and filled to nearly capacity. Political commentators stated that this felt like the energy behind 2008 Barack Obama. There was quite a bit of jeering at the right as unprepared for and scared of the rising superstar Kamala Harris. The problem with statements like that is that they lack context. It is important to note that Kamala was not the only act on stage.
Many local political figures attended, including Senator Jon Ossof and high-office hopeful Stacey Abrams. There was also one very important guest, rapper Megan Thee Stallion. She performed on stage just before Kamala came out. It is also important to note that this was a free campaign event with zero cover fee. All that was “required” was an invitation.
It is safe to assume that the proximity to Georgia State University in Downtown Atlanta would make for an audience more likely to come out to see the world-famous rapper for free than Kamala Harris. Video inside the arena shows people leaving almost as soon as Kamala started talking. Such a thing does not happen at events where the headliner comes on stage.
