Kevin McCarthy is out as Speaker of the House after serving just 269 days before being ousted by 8 Republicans and all House Democrats. The Republican “civil war” was led by Florida House Rep Matt Gaetz. His contention is that McCarthy did not follow through on his promises, such as a vote on term limits and regulation of Government spending. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that his fellow Democrats had no intentions of rescuing McCarthy and that it would be up to Republicans to solve their own issues. The next step is for a vote to take place to determine the next House Speaker. No clear candidate has been identified as of the writing of this article.
